The evening has a shape
A wedding night is a story with chapters. Cocktails need warmth, not volume. The family performances need a band that can back a nervous cousin like she is a star. The couple entry needs one perfectly chosen song, played live, at the exact second the doors open. And the last ninety minutes need a floor so full that the venue asks us politely about the noise curfew.
So we build the set backwards from the moments. Before any wedding, my team sits with the planner and the family and maps the timeline: haldi, pheras, entries, toasts, the first dance. Each moment gets its own musical treatment. Nothing is left to a shuffled playlist.
Every guest hears something that belongs to them
Indian weddings bring four generations into one room. Grandparents came for Rafi and Kishore. Parents light up at the Nineties. The couple wants this year’s chartbusters, and someone will always request Punjabi. We sing in twelve languages precisely for this reason. When the Malayali side of the family hears their song at a Goa wedding, that is the moment the two families actually merge on the dance floor.
Live is the whole point
A DJ can play the song. A live band can stretch the chorus because the bride’s friends are mid-air, drop the tempo when the groom’s mother steps in, and hand the mic to an uncle who secretly sings beautifully. That responsiveness cannot be programmed. It is the difference between background music and a night people describe at breakfast for years.
